Here are some summer reading programs that provide incentives for reading this summer. All programs are free of charge, but have different requirements. We’ve provided a quick overview of the program, but be sure to go to individual websites (use the link in program name) to get additional information and complete rules.

Barnes and Noble (1st to 6th grade)
Read 8 books and record them on entry form; bring completed form to B&N store; choose a free book from a selected list (list available on website or in store). May 19th to September 7th 2015.
Boston Red Sox and MTA (K to 8th grade)
Pledge to read 9 books by submitting pledge form by July 10th. Your name is entered into a sweepstakes to win tickets to a Red Sox game.
DOGObooks Summer Reading Program (ages 9-13)
Sign up online (with parent consent); select three books to read from reading list; read and write online reviews on three books. Receive a free book from online list (while supplies last).
Chuck E. Cheese’s Reading Rewards
Available year round, use Chuck E. Cheese’s “Reading Rewards” calendar to track 2 weeks of reading and receive 10 free tokens. Please note requirements on bottom of tracking calendar.
Medford Public Library and Other Public Libraries (all ages)
Lots of great summer activities and events. Sign-up online for children’s and teen summer reading programs at www.readsinma.org/medford. (This link takes you to the children’s sign up page, use the folder tabs at upper left to link to pages for the teen and adult sign up page.)
New York Times Summer Reading Contest (ages 13-19)
Teenagers choose a New York Times article that they have read and write an online opinion about the article (350 words or less). Each week (from June 12 to August 14) a winning student opinion will be chosen and featured online.
Pizza Hut Book It Summer Reading Challenge with Wimpy Kid (K-6)
Read five books and register to be entered into contest for a chance to win prizes. Program runs June 22 to August 15. Help Pizza Hut reach their goal of collectively reading 1 million minutes by August 15!
Reading Rockets Start with a Book Summer Program (preK to 3rd grade)
Parents can get tips, reading lists based on 24 kid-friendly themes, and summertime ideas for reading, writing, and related activities.
Scholastic Summer Challenge (pre-K and up)
Help set a new world record in reading. Program runs from May 4 to September 4. Read books and log minutes online to be entered to receive virtual prizes!
Showcase Cinemas Bookworm Wednesday (K and up)
Read a book; complete the Bookworm book report form; bring to theater for free admission to special movie showings on Wednesday morning only from July 8th till July 29th. (Please note that these are special showings at limited Showcase Cinemas – check website for complete schedule and locations.)
Sylvan Book Adventure (K to 8th grade)
Read books, take online quizzes, and earn points towards prizes (including books, magazines, and a chance to win movie tickets). Book Adventure is available year round.
TD Bank (K to 5th grade)
Read 10 books; complete form by August 31st; and receive $10 in new or existing Young Savers savings account.
Winchester Savings Bank (K and up)
Read 5 books, complete form, and return to bank. Program participants receive $10 gift certificate to bookstore and a $10 contribution to existing or new savings account (optional).
